The Institute of Open, Distance and eLearning (IODeL) at Makerere University is pleased to host a distinguished delegation from the University Design Institute at Arizona State University. The visiting team is in Uganda to collaborate with IODeL on key strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening digital learning and expanding access to quality education.

Strengthening the Mastercard Foundation eLearning Initiative

The primary focus of the visit is to support IODeL in finalizing the Mastercard Foundation eLearning Initiative Phase II Proposal. This initiative builds on earlier efforts to enhance online and blended learning at Makerere University, with a strong emphasis on: Expanding access to flexible, high-quality education, Enhancing digital infrastructure and instructional design capacity and Supporting inclusive education models across diverse learner groups

The collaboration brings together global expertise and local innovation to ensure that the next phase of the initiative is impactful, scalable, and aligned with emerging trends in digital education.

Supporting Scholars in Learning Design and Technology

In addition to proposal development, the Arizona State University team is actively engaging with 35 scholars enrolled in the Master’s and Graduate Certificate programs in Learning Design and Technology (LDT). These engagements include: Interactive workshops on instructional design and digital pedagogy, Mentorship sessions to guide scholars in their academic and professional journeys and Practical insights into designing learner-centered, technology-enhanced experiences

Through these activities, scholars are gaining hands-on exposure to cutting-edge practices in learning design, further strengthening their ability to contribute to digital transformation in education across Africa.

This visit underscores the growing partnership between Makerere University and Arizona State University, particularly in the field of digital learning innovation.
